Welcome to Cootamundra U3A

U3A stands for University of the Third Age. U3A is a world-wide movement where retired or semi-retired people, in their Third Age, after their youth (First Age) and working life (Second Age), get together to teach and learn from each other.

Research has shown that as we get older it is important to maintain our mental and physical health. U3A provides the opportunity to continue to learn about many different topics, to develop new skills and to share expertise and experience. The learning takes place in a friendly, supportive and social environment.  Unlike an institutional university, there are no assignments or exams. But U3A does provide an opportunity to keep our minds alive.

All U3As are community based, not-for-profit groups, which provide a wide variety of affordable learning opportunities. The curriculum of each U3A group is determined by the needs and preferences of its members and the resources available. Each U3A group is financially independent, raising income from its membership fees.

The U3A Network NSW Inc provides information, advice, some publicity and links with other educational and senior's organisations. U3A Network NSW Inc also has a comprehensive Group Public Liability Insurance Policy. A newsletter, website, resource library of courses, support and help are provided by the Network.

Cootamundra U3A talks and classes are always held during the day and follow school terms. A very diverse range of subjects have been part of our program and the introduction to various physical activities has led on to different groups being established, such as Table Tennis, Croquet and Ballroom Dancing.
